1992 McAfee Associates was incorporated August 14 in the state of Delaware.
The Company completed its Initial Public Offering October 6 under the ticker symbol “MCAF,” and began to diversify and market other types of software compatible with the electronic channel.
1997 Network Associates was formed by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General. McAfee Associates changed its legal name to Networks Associates and began conducting business under the ticker symbol "NETA."
1998 McAfee.com was incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Network Associates, Inc., as an online provider of PC security and management products and services for consumers. Christopher Bolin (current CTO) joined the company.
1999 McAfee.com completed its Initial Public Offering December 2 under the ticker symbol "MCAF."
2002 The first in a series of transactions was implemented to streamline the Company’s business to focus exclusively on security. The businesses of Gauntlet and PGP were sold, and in September, the Company acquired the outstanding stake in McAfee.com.
2003 Network Associates acquired Deersoft, Entercept Security Technologies, and IntruVert Networks. The integration of these technologies comprised the Company’s leading-edge product line in Intrusion Prevention Solutions (IPS).
2004 The divestitures of Magic Solutions and Sniffer businesses were completed.
On July 1, Network Associates became McAfee, Inc. to reflect the Company’s commitment to protecting the servers and networks of home users, small- and medium-sized businesses, and large enterprises from existing and emerging threats and malicious code.
2005 McAfee, Inc. completed the sale of McAfee Research Assets to SPARTA, Inc.
2006 McAfee, Inc. acquired Citadel Security Software Inc and Onigma Ltd to bolster its Security Risk Management offering and also purchased SiteAdvisor, an innovative solution to ensure safe and secure Web browsing.
2007 In March, Dave DeWalt was appointed Chief Executive Officer and President of McAfee, Inc., starting his position on April 2nd. In July, Todd Gebhart was appointed to lead McAfee's Consumer, Mobile and Small Business unit. In September, Mark Cochran was appointed Executive Vice President and General Counsel. In October, McAfee, Inc. enhanced its leadership position in the data protection market through the acquisition of SafeBoot. Also in October, Michael DeCesare was appointed Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales Operations.
2008 In February, McAfee, Inc. acquired ScanAlert, Inc., making the Internet safer for all users. In March, Keith Krzeminski, McAfee’s current Senior Vice President of Finance, was appointed Chief Accounting Officer. In April, Albert A. "Rocky" Pimentel was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of McAfee, Inc., starting his position on May 15th. In May, McAfee, Inc. launched McAfee Secure, the industry’s most comprehensive certification service, helping to boost consumer confidence in online purchasing. In August, McAfee, Inc. acquired Reconnex, a leader in proactive security and risk management solutions. In November, McAfee, Inc. acquired Secure Computing, uniquely positioning the company to offer the most complete set of network security on the market today. In December, McAfee was added to the S&P 500 Index.
